This Year is About Consistency
For years I have been one of those people who would take 3 hours to work on one thing in a record, especially in the mix. In my mind I was trying to make what I was working on as perfect as possible. However, all I was doing was procrastinating and making the artist antsy. After careful review, after a much needed break, I have decided that 2022 will be all about consistency. I’ve put too much value in getting inspired instead of championing myself for working out the kinks. This job has always been about problem solving and in order for me to get better I need to tackle more problems. No, this one effects chain won’t change the sound of music. No, this 457th take is not going to give us a Grammy Award winning take. No, spending one week on a chord progression is not going to make it better. I get paid to show up, do what I do, and get out of the way as quickly as possible. I’m consistently surrounded by musicians, engineers, and A&R’s that work at a much faster pace than me. I used to pat myself on the back for being one of the ones that took their time to get it right but now it’s become a hinderance to my progress.
With all that being said, expect a new blog post from me frequently. I’ll still deep dive into everything that comes to my mind and provide sources except this time you’re going to see my posts a lot more.
