Fruity Loops Makes You a Better Drum Arranger

There’s been a big debate on whether Ableton or FL Studio makes your drums sound better and bigger. I haven’t used Ableton before but what I can say in my rookie year of using FL Studio (see my conversion from Logic Pro here) is that my drum patterns have definitely gotten a lot better. I think it has something to do with the ease of clicking and dragging midi in so easily.

With Logic Pro (now being referred to as LPX) everything was manual. Great for handcrafting drum patterns to the finest detail but became time consuming. When a producer is making a beat or laying and idea for a record he/she doesn’t want to waste any time getting that idea out of their head. Something about catching the moment makes the beat/record feel special. Nothing like having an idea and actually seeing it and, most importantly, hearing it. So what took me so long to convert over when I knew back in 2017 that LPX was slowing me down?

My mentor, or OG if you‘re part of the culture, told me I should upgrade my ram and give it another go. My problem is LPX takes up so much ram because its constantly running something in the background that slows everything down! I had to make a choice, and I decided to be like everyone else and join FL Gang. If you can’t beat them…….

So now, only 7 months in I hear a vast difference in the quality of my drums. So much so that during my mixing phase sometimes I just let the drums play on loop for awhile before I start mixing the other instruments. I can definitely say Image-Line has given me a tool that makes cooking up beats….fun again…
